About · San Francisco
Pioneering a safer way to live and work with AI and robots
Humasure is a San Francisco startup building the independent safety mark for AI products and robots, so that people stay in charge of the machines in their homes and workplaces. Like “Certified Organic” for food, the mark tells you, at a glance, that someone independent checked.
Independent by design
A mark is only worth what it costs to fake
A certification mark that can be bought is worthless. Our structure is built so it can’t be.
- We will never build, sell or consult on AI products or robots.
- Our fees will be published and will never depend on the result.
- The standard is written in public, with consumer advocates at the table and industry votes capped at one third.
- Every decision, suspension and revocation will be on a public registry.
- Our assessors never advise the producers they test.
How we are organized
Two organizations, one mark
Humasure Foundation
A nonprofit that owns the Directives and the Humasure mark, runs the public registry, and decides certifications, suspensions and appeals. A majority of its board will be independent, including a consumer advocate. Every version of the standard is published free of charge.
Humasure Assurance, Inc.
The company that carries out assessments and testing under a license from the Foundation, a license the Foundation can revoke. Its fees pay for the work; they never decide the outcome.
Humasure is in formation. Both organizations are being set up, and we have not certified any products yet.
Governance
Who decides what
| Body | Role | Safeguard |
|---|---|---|
| Foundation board | Owns the mark and the standard; sets policy | Independent majority, including a consumer advocate |
| Standards Council | Writes and revises the Directives after public comment | Industry votes capped at one third; all comments and responses published |
| Appeals Board | Hears producers’ appeals against decisions | Independent of assessors; safety suspensions stay in force during appeal |
| Assessors | Test products against the Directives | Never advise the producers they test; we will seek accreditation for certification bodies (ISO/IEC 17065) |
