Certification

How certification works

Humasure certifies a specific product, model and software version, not a company. A product earns the mark by passing independent tests against the 10 Directives, and keeps it only while it keeps passing.

The process

Four steps, then every year

STEP 1

Apply

The maker submits the product, its declared scope, a draft Trust Label and the safety certificates and test reports it already holds.

STEP 2

Tested

Accredited labs test the hardware. Our assessors review the documents, inspect the code paths behind the stop, and red-team the AI to make it break its own rules.

STEP 3

Certified and listed

A product that meets every requirement that applies to it gets the mark and a public registry page with its Trust Label and status.

STEP 4

Watched every year

Annual surveillance, anonymous store purchases, a review of every incident and complaint, and a full reassessment every 3 years.

What we certify

Four product categories

A product that fits more than one category is assessed against all of them. A home robot with a companion chatbot is both C and A.

CategoryCoversExamples
A. AI software and agentsSoftware whose main function is conversational or autonomous AI, including agents that act on accounts, money or devicesChat assistants, companions, AI agents, AI tutors
B. AI-powered devicesPhysical devices with AI features that cannot move themselves or their surroundingsSmart speakers, AI cameras, wearables, appliances
C. Home and service robotsRobots that move or handle objects around people with no trainingHome humanoids, companion robots, delivery and cleaning robots
D. Commercial robotsRobots used by trained staff in workplacesCobots, warehouse robots, hospital logistics robots

Out of scope: research systems not offered to users, general-purpose AI models that are not packaged as a product (a product built on one is in scope), and military and weapons systems, which Humasure does not certify.

Two levels

Certified, and Certified Home & Family

Certified

Meets every requirement in the Directives that applies to its category, except the extra Home & Family ones.

Certified Home & Family

Meets every applicable requirement, including the stricter Home & Family ones: lower force limits near people, no-record bedrooms and bathrooms, protections for children and older adults. Required for anything marketed to children, likely to be used by children, older adults or people in care, or used in homes or care settings. A product that meets this test cannot certify at the lower tier.

The Trust Label

Compare products the way you compare nutrition labels

Every certified product publishes a one-page Trust Label, in plain language, with the same fields in the same order. It is on the box or product listing before you buy, and in the public registry. Every statement on it is checked during assessment; a false label is grounds for suspension.

The public registry

Every status, in public

The mark always reflects a product’s current status in the registry. A certificate lasts one year and renews only after passing surveillance.

StatusWhenWhat the producer must do
CERTIFIEDAll requirements metKeep meeting them
WITH CONDITIONSA minor problem found; shown with a note and a deadlineFix it within 60 days
SUSPENDEDA major problem, an unreported serious incident, a false Trust Label, or a missed deadlineStop new use of the mark; fix within 30 days
REVOKEDSuspension not resolved, a safety-critical failure, or misuse of the markRemove the mark within 30 days. The summary stays in the registry permanently
NO WAITING

A failure of the stop (D1) or physical safety (D3) means immediate suspension, without waiting for the producer’s response. Producers can appeal any decision to an independent Appeals Board within 30 days; a safety suspension stays in force during the appeal.

Keeping the mark

Certified means the product you can buy today

  • Same as sold. We may buy units anonymously at any time and test them. Home & Family products get at least one unannounced test purchase a year.
  • Changes are checked first. Producers tell us about changes that affect what the product does, its data use, remote access, stop or physical abilities at least 30 days before release, or within 72 hours for an urgent security fix.
  • New AI models count. A new version of the AI model a product depends on, even from another company, is re-reviewed if it could affect the stop, autonomy, honesty or manipulation rules.
  • Incidents are reported. Serious incidents reach us within 72 hours (24 hours for Home & Family), with a full report within 30 days.

Fees and independence

The mark can’t be bought

  • Fees will be published before applications open, set by product category, and never depend on the result.
  • Our assessors never advise the producers they test. Preparation help comes only from published, self-serve tools.
  • Certification does not mean a product complies with every law. Producers stay responsible for the laws of each market; where a law is stricter than a Directive, the law applies.
  • Founding Cohort products are certified at cost, in exchange for a public case study.

Help set the standard

We are recruiting founding advisors and our first ten products in AI companions, eldercare and home robots. Tell us who you are and how you’d like to take part.
